The Meaning of the Logo
(from the Archdiocese of Manila)
500
500 years since the celebration of the first Holy Mass and the first Baptism in the country in 1521 that begun the wonderful story of the faith of Filipinos.
CROSS
The victory of the Cross of Jesus is central to our faith–given to us in Baptism, by which we also sign ourselves,  display on different places as a sign of God’s protection.
The cross is inscribed with the word JESUS, in ancient Filipino Baybayin (HE-SU-S) and Roman letters, symbolizing the encounter and integration between the faith brought by Spanish missionaries and our own life and culture.
After 500 years, Filipino culture has also contributed much to the Universal Church and the New Evangelization. The Cross now becomes not just a symbol of protection, but more importantly a badge of mission.
SUN
The PHILIPPINE SUN derived from the Philippine flag reminds us of the National Motto, “Maka-Diyos, Maka-Tao, Makakalikasan at Makabansa,” recognizing God the Father and his creation that we need to care for.
HOLY SPIRIT
The HOLY SPIRIT in the form of a dove, through Whom we are made sharers of the Divine Life in the Sacrament of Baptism. The TONGUE OF FIRE symbolizes the missionary impulse of the Pentecost, telling Filipino Catholics to go forth with courage to preach the truth of the Good News.
BLUE BACKGROUND
The logo stands in a BLUE BACKGROUND, a homage to the Blessed Virgin Mary, who Filipinos call "Mama Mary," by whose images that travelled the blue seas have strengthened the faith of the country and have brought us closer to her Son Jesus.
